About the Department

                         Khasi department was established in the year 1962. Khasi being the mother tongue, the students are able to understand and communicate better. Therefore, many of them have fared well in the examinations. Some of them have come out with flying colours. Students of the department have bagged many prizes in different curricular activities conducted by North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong as well as different organizations in the Khasi language Khasi language at present is recognized as an associate official language. It is now in the process of possible inclusion in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution of India which will pave the way for plenty of opportunities for the students in the future. There will be awards given to the writers and translators “Sahitya Akademi Award.” Young writers will be awarded with cash prizes and citations. The Khasi language will be introduced to other colleges and universities of the country as a second language.Many competitive exams can be conducted in Khasi language.Proper funding will be given to researchers in the field. Job opportunities for students in the field of translation.
