MA-Khasi Department
About the Department:
The Department of Khasi came into existence along with the establishment of the college in September 1962. Since its inception in 1962, the department has been offering Khasi MIL and Khasi Second Language at the pre-university and college levels. The department introduced Khasi Honours course in the year 1976, with only 5 students opting for the course. However, it was a moment of pride and encouragement for the department when the entire first batch achieved a cent per cent success in the final examination conducted by the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU). In fact, the department’s performance has been consistently commendable from its inception, shaping and producing many high-quality students. A good number of students have progressed and secured admission to pursue their master degree in North-Eastern Hill University. One of the milestones in the History of the department was the introduction of the Master Degree Programme in the year 2022 with 30 students enrolled in the programme. This was a moment of pride and encouragement for the college in general and the department in particular. It may be mentioned here that this year 2023, we have two batches of students opted for M.A Khasi in our college.
The significant contribution of the department towards the uplift of the academic career of the students can be observed in its various programmes and activities. The department regularly holds interaction sessions between its teachers and students to discuss academic and extracurricular matters. Such interactions are conducted in a cordial atmosphere. It is important to note that the Department’s academic environment, as a whole, fosters active student engagement.
Furthermore, study tours and field trips were also organized to enable the students to expand their knowledge on the rich cultural heritage of the Khasis.
The Department will continue to strive forward in its existence endeavours to ensure a healthy and positive growth of the academic environment of the college and the society as a whole.
