Report on the various activities by NCC Unit 

            Sankardev College of Shillong has the NCC unit as an extracurricular activity for those students (for both boys and girls) who are interested as it provides wide scope to be part of Indian military services and Civil services. The College NCC Unit has registered under 2nd Meghalaya Battalion NCC Unit. The cadets are given various good quality trainings which are given through institutionally, State and National levels to build up personalities in them. The NCC unit of Sankardev College also organizes various social and environment programmes to impart care and love towards nature and country.

            The NCC Unit allotted 53 (Fifty Three) seats for the students to become NCC cadet. The college also started enrolling girls students from the year 2019 after receiving orders from the NCC Unit headquarter. The vacancies are shared as 32 boys which is designate as Senior Division or SD and 21 girls as Senior Wing or SW and it is looking after by 1 Caretaker Officer (CTO). Together they conduct various activities which are programmed by the Headquarter NCC and the college which are mostly health and environment related programs and NCC related activities. Through all of these activities the unit builds up awareness to the society as well as leadership qualities in them. The cadets undergo various camps and examinations which are organized by NCC Unit Office. This helps to acquire ‘B’ and ‘C’ category certificate.

            The college organizes classes and drills alternately for 3 days in a week with special syllabus prepared by Directorate General NCC (DGNCC) headquarter. The theory paper includes various history of NCC establishment in India, trainings, scopes, ranks, skills, Indian history, environment, etc. In drill session the cadets are trained for physical fitness, discipline, manners, mental strength, march pass etc. The Unit organized various awareness programs such as World Water Day, World Earth Day, World Environment Day, World Tobacco Day, Swachhta Pakwada, Fit India Day, World Yoga Day etc. The College NCC Unit also takes part in National Independence Day celebration and National Republic Day celebration in Polo ground organized by the State government.

            The cadets from the college went for compulsory training camps and selection camps organized by different Battalion NCC Units which are national or the state level. In the year 2019 Mr. Wallamkuper Mawkhiew, a cadet from Department of Political Science got selected for Delhi National Camp to represent North East region. During the lockdown for covid-19 pandemic even when the normalcy is halted the cadets from the college volunteered themselves to help the society, among them are Mr Aniket Kumar, Nobaram Hajong and Bipul Kumar, with the volunteering order received from NCC Unit office. In 26 January 2021 Republic Day celebration in Pologround Shillong 5 cadets as allotted for the college have participated actively. Mr Aniket Kumar also represented the college for RDC Delhi training selection.
