The Community Outreach Program Committee(COPC)
The COPC of Sankardev College, Shillong with the aim of reaching out and lending a helping hand to the community conducted a series of programs to address various sensitive issues affecting the Community in Shillong and the adjoining areas.
1.On the 20th November 2020, the COPC conducted an Awareness Program on Protocols pertaining to COVID 19 Pandemic for the shop- vendors in Bishnupur Bazar area ,Shillong.The District Medical and Health Officer, East khasi Hills provided two Resource persons, Mr. A.M.Sarkar and Ms. La in Shap Phanwar(Nutritionist) to addressed the fifty plus audience at the Conference Hall of the College.The Principal Dr.E.F.P.Lyngdoh, Mr.S.Swett (Rangbah Shnong, Bishnupur), Seng Samla Bishnupur and members of the shnong were also present in the program.
2.On the 27th November 2020, a similar program on the theme,’Managing a Pandamic – Ways to enhance Nutrition, Health and Safety for ourselves and our immediate surroundings’ was conducted at Mawlyndiar and Laitmawsiang village, Laitrynew Sohra, at their respective Community Hall. Ms. Mayfereen Ryntathiang, President ,GRASSROOTS, was the resource person on the occasion.She highlighted the importance of indigenous knowledge in enhancing Nutrition and prevention in this difficult time.The program was attended by the Sordar Mr.ballister Khongrymmai(Laitmawsiang)) and Secretary shnong Mr.O.Khongshei(Mawlyndiar), women, etc of the the village.
3.On the 1st December 2020, the Committee in collaboration with the Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Meghalaya conducted an’ Awareness Program on Wildlife’ at Iing Dorbar Hall, Neng Gate, Pynursla sub- division, East khasi Hills to address the increasing Human- animal conflict in these areas which has resulted in damage to property and loss of lives. Smt. Anu P. James, DFO(wildlife) and Smt. Iowandaka Najiar, Range Forest Officer I/C ,Zoo range and Protection range, Khasi Hills Wildlife Division graced the occasion.The Rangbah Shnong from adjoining villages of Mawlyndun, Mawsohrisa, Mawpyrthuh, Ringer, Massar, Mawah, Wahkhen, Shilliang Jashar, Kynton Sair, Kyndiar and Thiepskhai participated in this program.
4.On the 8th December 2020 another program on ,’Social Media and the digital World : Its relevance and Impact’was organized at Jaiaw Laitdom Community Hall.Mrs.Joy Grace Syiem, Manager Northeast Network and Mr. B.Diengngan, MPS, SDPO, Pynursla highlighted on the topic Digital parenting and Cyber Crimes respectively.The program saw active participation from the Rangbah shnong, Secretary shnong, Rangbah Dong, Seng Kynthei, Seng Samla, Executive members of the dorbar, etc.
