About the Department

                The department of Economics started with Prof. L.R Myrthong who joined the college on the 10^th July, 1962 was the founding staff of the department. The Department of Economics is one of the Departments when the college was started. The number of Honours students that the department used to have is not very impressive as Arts students feel and consider it as a tough subject due to mathematics and statistics. Though few students and with low or just average score that they entered, the department could produce some students who managed to clear NET examination and got the placement in Mizoram University.             

Economics Department comprises of a staff of 4 members. The enrolment of students was about 20 in each academic session. There are students who finished their M.A and some are still continuing. As the Head of the Department is the convener of the NSS Committee therefore most of the activities of the Department are being collaborated with the NSS units. The Deparment used to participate in Tree Plantation programmes organised by the NSS. The Department also used to organised fieldtrips such as visibility firms of different kinds. The Department stresses upon self-employment of the students.

             Some students though we never keep track or recorded them in those days got placement in different government offices of Meghalaya, and other states.

In 2018 a girl named Mebaniewkor Sohlang got first division and mange to pursue her MA (economics) at NEHU Shillong.

In 2020, a boy named OkramChinglemba also scored 1^st division and pursue MA( Eco)  at Birla Global University, Orissa and now he has Passed MA (Eco) in 1^st Division

In 2021, 6 students manage for 1^st division, of them:

1. Kitdor Basaiawmoit- Don Bosco University, Assam- MA (economics)
2. Manoa R.Marak-Royal Global University, Guwahati, Assam (MA, Economics)
3. Iohsuk Khongpdah- pursuing MA(Eco), NEHU
4. Onias Lyngdoh – Pursuing MA( Eco), MLCU.
5. Gulshon Majhi – Pursuing MA (Eco), IGNOU.

Banlystar Khongshun BA-2021, clear the interview for the post of LD in DC Office(Shillong) is still waiting for the appointment letter. Papers are still waiting.

In 2022, 2 students manage to get 1^st Division, out of 7.

1. Sonam Tsering- Pursuing MA (Eco) in Gauhati University.
2. Ibalapynshai Rynghang- Pursuing MA (Eco) in IGNOU.
3. Tomonlang Jyrwa- Pursuing MA (Eco) in NEHU.

In 2023, One Students manage to secured 1^st Division, Out of 6.

1. Pynjanailang is the only student who secured 1^st division and presently he in NEHU studying MA(Eco).
