The Department of Khasi, Sankardev College, Shillong observed the mother tongue day on the 21-feb-2020. In this connection some programmes were organized like Panel Discussion, Extempore speech and display of books in the mother tongue day.

          The teachers took part in the panel discussion on the topic ” Language and culture” to highlight the importance of the moher tongue in relation to the khasi Culture . The teachers are Dr. Sukjai Swer(Head of Dept.), Mrs Betheldamon Kharwanlang, Mr Walter Thabah, Mrs B Lyngdoh Mawphlang and Mrs D Warjri.

          Around 65 students took part in the Extempore speech competition on various topics such as the importance of khasi Language , the cultural aspects of Khasi and Jaintia, The role of a youngest daughter in the Khasi family, the cultural heritage of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills such as Monolith etc. The students actively involved in all the programmes. The winners in the Extempore speech competition are as follows :

1st prize: K Dkhar IV Semester,  B Nongsiej VI semester

2nd prize: R Khonthiang VI Semester , P Kharthangmaw VI Semester

3rd prize: Wallambor Mawlong IV semester, B Suting IV Semester

          Students also shows their keen interest in all the books display on this day. The programmes was a very successful one.
